My friend and I have just spent a week at Rough Top Cottage with our 8 agility dogs. Such a lovely cosy cottage and we were very impressed - so many extras. All we needed for a much needed cuppa on our arrival and such a surprise to have a goody bag for each of the dogs, wasn't expecting that ! Each bag had a couple of bags of doggy treats, poo bags, a tennis ball and tags with the name of the cottage and phone number in case they get lost. Loads of throws to put on the sofas and beds as well. Then there's the dog paddock which was brilliant and also a lovely enclosed garden. Definitely the best dog friendly holiday home we've stayed in. Thank you Sandra and Brian xx
Had our 4th wonderful relaxing break at Roughtop and have already booked our next visit 😃 Our 2 dogs knew where they were as soon as we pulled into the drive & couldn’t wait to charge about in the dog paddock. They are so happy in the cottage which means we can enjoy the break too. Sandra & Brian are the perfect hosts and the cottage has everything you need. Loads of dog friendly places to visit - The Stubbing Wharf & Shepherds Rest pubs both have great food and friendly staff & the dogs loved paddling at Gaddings Dam. Enjoyed a nice wolfhound friendly walk around Rowley Park, thanks to Sandra’s recommendation. Also we were lucky to be around at the time of Blackshaw fete which was super dog friendly and nice to sample some local produce. Can’t wait to come back as we are always made to feel so welcome.Thank you once again letting us stay & the lovely biscuits!
We booked Rough Top Cottage for a family break to celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary, and we are so pleased that we did. The setting is absolutely beautiful and the cottage is spotless, cosy and very well equipped.
Our Labrador loved being able to run freely in the grounds and garden, as did our 3 year old son! We felt really assured that it was safe and secure for both of them.
The cottage is in an ideal location to visit Todmorden and Hebden Bridge. We used Uber to get back from Hebden Bridge and this was approximately £7.
Sandra's communication in the lead up to and during our stay was second to none. The card and flowers for my parents on arrival were a lovely surprise and the welcome pack for us and our dog were just great!
We would very much like to stay at Rough Top Cottage again in the future!
Another perfect stay at Rough Top Cottage!!
Absolutely wonderful for the hounds who enjoyed it every bit as much as we did.
Beautiful weather made the wonderful walks even better. Explored much more of the area this time round but still so much more to see.
The local shops, markets and pubs are super friendly and we all felt very much at home!!
Big thanks to Sandra and Brian for having us 😊
This was our second visit to Rough Top and it was every bit as good as we remembered. Rough Top is one of if not the most dog friendly cottage we've stayed in. The enclosed garden is excellent and the paddock is a great facility although the dogs weren't sure what to make of the new additions to it. Sandra & Brian are really good hosts and the cottage has everything you could want and the area has lots to explore. We can't recommend Rough Top enough.
This was our second visit to Rough Top and it did not disappoint. Brian and Sandra are great hosts. Our woofah loved the enclosed garden and we played for hours in there overlooking a wonderful view. We saw the resident barn owl on a few occasions it was wonderful . also, great to see lapwings and curlews ! Our dog did not want to leave nor its owners.
Well what can I say, apart from I wish we had been able to stay for longer.
Came for 3 nights with my husband, sister and brother in law and my mom
(we were celebrating her 80th birthday) and our 5 dogs.
The weather was extremely kind to us which just added to a perfect break!
Stunning views, beautiful wildlife and fabulous walking all on the doorstep.
Rough top cottage ticked all the boxes for us and the dogs, super cosy but at the same time spacious with all the little details thoughtfully taken care of. The garden was a joy to be in and the field was an added bonus for the dogs to have a good run round.
Thank you for having us Sandra and Brian, really look forward to coming back!!
I stayed with my husband and four pooches, two of which can be reactive (rescue) from 17-22nd May 24.
We had an amazing stay, the cottage is perfect in a wonderful location. We had amazing weather, we were very lucky.
We visited Hardcastle Crags, Hebden Bridge, Towneley Park, Singing Ringing Tree, Gaddings Dam and a few other walks nearby the cottage. Our furbabies were able to do them all, fantastic views and lots of streams for the two that love water.
The cottage also has a great little dog proof garden and an attached paddock for more of a run if needed.
Lovely food at The Shepherds Rest Inn & Top Brink Inn. The cottage is highly recommended, we had a fantastic time and hope to come back at some point.
The owners live nearby and were very helpful when needed. Thank you once again x
My family were very fortunate to see the northern lights and have amazing weather during our stay. We made full use of the paddock with our 3 Whippets and 8 year son, the garden is also lovely.
Really well kitted out cottage and spacious with dogs. Sandra was really welcoming and there are lots of leaflets and information on surrounding attractions and walks at the cottage.
Really enjoyable and superb for dogs!!!
We had a very enjoyable stay at Rough Top cottage. The cottage is very spacious with a fabulous kitchen and boot room. It is very homely with loads of extra touches, flowers, welcome pack, dog treats and a laid fire just to mention a few. Our 3 dogs settled immediately to their comfy surroundings. Despite the awful weather, it rained for most of the week, we managed to get out and about. Hardcastle crags are great for the dogs to explore. Unfortunately we were unable to use the paddock due to wetness but utilised the well enclosed garden. Sandra and Brian are excellent hosts being on hand for any queries that arose. The views from the cottage are stunning and we spent some time watching snowy owls surveying their surroundings, amazing.
A very relaxing break in beautiful surroundings for all made extra special by the care and attention of our hosts Sandra and Brian
This was a beautiful place to stay. We don’t feel the photos do justice to the beautifully spacious and wonderfully equipped kitchen. Thank you for laying out the fire for us and providing us with plenty of fuel for a very cosy stay. Bedrooms are very comfortable, bathrooms are great too. The location turned out to be perfect for exploring a magical area (with or without a dog!) and we definitely want to come back and see it all at other times of year. The views from the garden and patio are stunning. Best of all was the hosting! We felt so well looked after, it really added something special to our holiday. You just don’t get such lovely personal attention on other booking platforms, and we will certainly be booking through independent Cottages again. Thank you from us all.
Thank you so much Sandra & Brian for another lovely stay at Rough Top. Despite the weather we had a great time and discovered a few new walks including to Haworth Bridge and Waterfall and around Townley which is super for dogs. Cara & Flossie are just so happy when they are in the cottage and keep ganging up on us to ask to go for more zoomies in the paddock!
Not just a ‘Dog Friendly’ cottage but a ‘Dog Homely’ cottage with all the little extras. Thank you once again and looking forward to coming back next year. 💕👏
We were lucky enough to find Rough Top had availability so booked it and we were certainly NOT disappointed. The cottage had everything we needed it is well equipped, comfortable and homely. It is a doggy heaven our four loved the welcome doggie bags and the use of the large paddock is a real bonus somewhere for them to let off steam! The pretty enclosed garden is a sun trap and you can relax knowing your dogs can't escape. Lots of beautiful walks from the door or only a short drive away through the beautiful countryside. Sandra you do an amazing job thank you for a fabulous holiday X
Third visit to “Ruff” Top and already hoping we can be back soon. Last minute short break this time but we all feel rested and relaxed within hours of arriving - especially our dog who sensed where we were going and got ridiculously excited when we reached the Kebs Road!
If you are reading this review and thinking of going, just find the dates and book it before someone else does. Everything you could possibly need is provided - this is a 5* stay. Lots to do in the area all within a 20’ or less drive. Such a dog friendly area to experience that your dog will love you even more for coming here.
Here’s to our next visit! Thank you Sandra and Brian for your warm welcome as always. See you again!
Booked the cottage as a last minute holiday with our dog as camping was looking a bad idea with the weather.the booking process was easy which was great. On arrival we were shown around and you could really tell the attention to detail and love that had gone into everything there.Tipsy clearly felt at home straight away which was lovely. There was plenty of extra dog supplies and blankets which was really thoughtful. The space outside was great especially the secure garden as I felt happy knowing Tipsy could have a good wander and was safe. The cottage itself was really homely and and again everything had been thought of,from kitchen cleaning supplies to hand lotion by every sink.tea and coffee and milk for arrival was a lovely (well needed) touch.Cannot fault it and im so glad we booked. We didnt want to leave,it really felt like home ,and,if you'll have us,we most certainly will be back.xxx
We stayed at Rough Top Cottage for a week and the whole process was really smooth and efficient. Our two dogs Portugues Pointers loved the paddock - we bedded these two in the tiled spacious entrance hall ideal for bigger dogs. The cottage is very comfortable and well equpped plus the owners left lovely welcome gifts - at the weekend the grown up kids arrived for a big family reunion in Halifax. During our week we went to fly with witches at Pendle, to Bickerstaff where friends live [an easy trip] Hebden Bridge of course - fab time had by all
We had a lovely time . Its a cottage that dogs bring their owners too. Our woofah loved the paddock and settled in the sunshine in the garden . Sandra and Brian are lovely. Had treats left for our dog and a pressie. Our doggie left a present in paddock for next visitor. I am sure they found the yellow object! Back next year!
We had a wonderful week at Rough Top Cottage. It was just perfect for us and our dogs Izzy and Dave. The garden was great to sit in and was nice and secure for the dogs which is something we always look for when booking a holiday. The paddock was a bonus! A brilliant place for the dogs to run off some energy.
Its the perfect place for dog owners with so many dog friendly places to visit near by.
It really is a home from home and we were welcomed with treats both for us and our furkids!
Thank you Sandra for a fantastic week. We would highly recommend Rough Top Cottage and we will certainly be back!
We visited Rough Top cottage on the 7th April for 3 nights. We had a wonderful and relaxing weekend. The cottage is everything you could wish for and more, absolutely stunning views. Our 3 dogs were in their element in the garden and paddock, we even had a cheeky glass of wine or 2 on the patio, sun was shining AHH bliss. Thank you so much Sandra and Brian for the goodies left, even an Easter Egg. We will be back.
We stayed at Rough Top over February's half term and really wanted a home from home environment in order to reunite with family that live in Yorkshire. We had a busy but relaxing holiday involving all the important ingredients; a great location, a warm and well stocked fire and a real sense of space and tranquility. Our two Whippets absolutely thrived in the paddock and loved the local walks across stunning countryside. We are hoping to return in the summer!
