This was a beautiful place to stay. We donโt feel the photos do justice to the beautifully spacious and wonderfully equipped kitchen. Thank you for laying out the fire for us and providing us with plenty of fuel for a very cosy stay. Bedrooms are very comfortable, bathrooms are great too. The location turned out to be perfect for exploring a magical area (with or without a dog!) and we definitely want to come back and see it all at other times of year. The views from the garden and patio are stunning. Best of all was the hosting! We felt so well looked after, it really added something special to our holiday. You just donโt get such lovely personal attention on other booking platforms, and we will certainly be booking through independent Cottages again. Thank you from us all.
Thank you so much Sandra & Brian for another lovely stay at Rough Top. Despite the weather we had a great time and discovered a few new walks including to Haworth Bridge and Waterfall and around Townley which is super for dogs. Cara & Flossie are just so happy when they are in the cottage and keep ganging up on us to ask to go for more zoomies in the paddock!
Not just a โDog Friendlyโ cottage but a โDog Homelyโ cottage with all the little extras. Thank you once again and looking forward to coming back next year. ๐๐
We were lucky enough to find Rough Top had availability so booked it and we were certainly NOT disappointed. The cottage had everything we needed it is well equipped, comfortable and homely. It is a doggy heaven our four loved the welcome doggie bags and the use of the large paddock is a real bonus somewhere for them to let off steam! The pretty enclosed garden is a sun trap and you can relax knowing your dogs can't escape. Lots of beautiful walks from the door or only a short drive away through the beautiful countryside. Sandra you do an amazing job thank you for a fabulous holiday X
Third visit to โRuffโ Top and already hoping we can be back soon. Last minute short break this time but we all feel rested and relaxed within hours of arriving - especially our dog who sensed where we were going and got ridiculously excited when we reached the Kebs Road!
If you are reading this review and thinking of going, just find the dates and book it before someone else does. Everything you could possibly need is provided - this is a 5* stay. Lots to do in the area all within a 20โ or less drive. Such a dog friendly area to experience that your dog will love you even more for coming here.
Hereโs to our next visit! Thank you Sandra and Brian for your warm welcome as always. See you again!
Booked the cottage as a last minute holiday with our dog as camping was looking a bad idea with the weather.the booking process was easy which was great. On arrival we were shown around and you could really tell the attention to detail and love that had gone into everything there.Tipsy clearly felt at home straight away which was lovely. There was plenty of extra dog supplies and blankets which was really thoughtful. The space outside was great especially the secure garden as I felt happy knowing Tipsy could have a good wander and was safe. The cottage itself was really homely and and again everything had been thought of,from kitchen cleaning supplies to hand lotion by every sink.tea and coffee and milk for arrival was a lovely (well needed) touch.Cannot fault it and im so glad we booked. We didnt want to leave,it really felt like home ,and,if you'll have us,we most certainly will be back.xxx
We stayed at Rough Top Cottage for a week and the whole process was really smooth and efficient. Our two dogs Portugues Pointers loved the paddock - we bedded these two in the tiled spacious entrance hall ideal for bigger dogs. The cottage is very comfortable and well equpped plus the owners left lovely welcome gifts - at the weekend the grown up kids arrived for a big family reunion in Halifax. During our week we went to fly with witches at Pendle, to Bickerstaff where friends live [an easy trip] Hebden Bridge of course - fab time had by all
We had a lovely time . Its a cottage that dogs bring their owners too. Our woofah loved the paddock and settled in the sunshine in the garden . Sandra and Brian are lovely. Had treats left for our dog and a pressie. Our doggie left a present in paddock for next visitor. I am sure they found the yellow object! Back next year!
We had a wonderful week at Rough Top Cottage. It was just perfect for us and our dogs Izzy and Dave. The garden was great to sit in and was nice and secure for the dogs which is something we always look for when booking a holiday. The paddock was a bonus! A brilliant place for the dogs to run off some energy.
Its the perfect place for dog owners with so many dog friendly places to visit near by.
It really is a home from home and we were welcomed with treats both for us and our furkids!
Thank you Sandra for a fantastic week. We would highly recommend Rough Top Cottage and we will certainly be back!
We visited Rough Top cottage on the 7th April for 3 nights. We had a wonderful and relaxing weekend. The cottage is everything you could wish for and more, absolutely stunning views. Our 3 dogs were in their element in the garden and paddock, we even had a cheeky glass of wine or 2 on the patio, sun was shining AHH bliss. Thank you so much Sandra and Brian for the goodies left, even an Easter Egg. We will be back.
We stayed at Rough Top over February's half term and really wanted a home from home environment in order to reunite with family that live in Yorkshire. We had a busy but relaxing holiday involving all the important ingredients; a great location, a warm and well stocked fire and a real sense of space and tranquility. Our two Whippets absolutely thrived in the paddock and loved the local walks across stunning countryside. We are hoping to return in the summer!
We have had a wonderful relaxing weekend at Rough Top Cottage - our second visit. Although the weather was rather wet following Storm Orro, with the fire lit it was just cosy and warm and with the paddock next door, Bracken was in her element. The cottage is well appointed and thank you so much Brian and Sandra for the goodies you left and also the wood for the fire. We look forward to seeing you again in May.
Had a fantastic weekend. Thanks so much. Just got home & tried to book for this time next year. Gutted that it is booked up.
Was so quiet & relaxed. Was the best Bonfire Night we have had in a very long time. Think we are going to look at installing a log burner at home, as the dogs were so keen to snooze in front of it. ๐ Lovely walks in the area. The Paddock was a great addition. Everything we needed was provided for us. Thr dogs were relaxed. Will have to visit again soon. Thank you so much.
A really comfortable well-equipped cottage. Welcome pack included a box of border biscuits and all you would need to make a cup of tea or coffee on arrival, a bottle of wine and a packet of dog treats
Hand wash, hand cream, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner were provided in both bathrooms in full size bottles. Towels were lovely, big and soft. Extra blankets were available if we needed but the cottage was well heated with the central heating, we didn't need to light the log fire.
Dogs were made very welcome with a big box of things we might have forgotten to bring for them including shampoo and blankets.
We felt really spoilt by all the things that were provided.
Followed the footpaths to the waterfall and Bride Stones. The paddock was great for letting the dogs stretch their legs before going out for the day.
Really enjoyed our stay knowing that our hosts were not too far away and could answer any of our queries.
In short everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay.
A really nice but short stay at this superb cottage, beautifully equipped and spacious with excellent outside space which we unfortunately couldn't take full advantage of because of the heat but the paddock was a great bonus.
The owner was extremely helpful, welcoming and had provided some very welcome gifts including wine, biscuits, milk and even birthday treats for one of our dogs.
We would highly recommend Rough Top and would like to return for a longer visit if the opportunity arises.
Just back from a wonderful stay at Rough Top. This was the second time staying at Rough Top and would be very happy to return once again. The cottage has everything you need and was spotlessly clean. Additional touches with the provision of tea, coffee, biscuits and even a bottle of vino were very welcome. Overall, our hosts were extremely helpful with lots of local information, whilst at the same time not being intrusive.
This was our first visit to Rough Top Cottage which has been a most enjoyable time for us. The cottage is very comfortable and very well equipped. Thank you so much for all the goodies and wine left for us and also the dog hamper left for Bracken our border collie. Bracken had a wonderful time in the paddock and she was very much at home from the moment we arrived. The countryside and scenery is stunning and although we were not able to walk far at Hardcastle Crags, it was well worth the visit. We will be hoping to make a return visit during 2023. We both recommend Rough Top Cottage for a dog friendly holiday. Thank you Brian and Sandra for allowing us such a lovely relaxing break.
It was our third visit to Rough Top Cottage - it feels like a home away from home! The ideal place to relax and get away from it all, and Poppy just settles here instantly with the cosy fire, blankets and secure paddock for her to run around in.
It's a beautiful cottage in a stunning location - we were fortunate enough to get some gorgeous weather on our visit and enjoyed listening to the birds singing in the garden every morning.
Brian had some successful fishing trips to Pennine trout fishery, and we had fun at Hebden Happy Hounds dog show and walking around the dog friendly shops.
We didn't have to go far for some incredible walking spots either!
Sandra and Brian always make us feel very welcome and their lovely golden retriever Jasper came for a play, which was lovely ๐
Fully recommend Rough Top Holiday Cottage for a relaxing dog friendly getaway
We enjoyed a lovely, relaxing break over Easter. We arrived to a lovely welcome gift from Sandra which was much appreciated and very thoughtful. The cottage is cosy and inviting, especially the fire in the lounge which we enjoyed settling around in the evenings. Albie, our cocker spaniel, thoroughly enjoyed the freedom of the paddock and the rug in front of the fire! The cottage is well situated for access to Todmorden and Hebden Bridge. Thank you for a lovely, relaxing break.
We, two humans and two dogs, enjoyed a lovely relaxing week - and it was November. It's an old stone house so it absorbs the weather so well. And we all snuggled in front of the log fire (we were given a very generous supply of logs which were environmentally friendly) every evening and relaxed. The large Kitchen table reminds of a farmhouse kitchen - it's a pity only two of us got sit around it (I could do with borrowing it for Christmas!). The dogs enjoyed the paddock - lots of interesting smells. Cafes in Todmorden and Hebden Bridge are dog friendly too. It's got an atmosphere which helps unwinding. Thoroughly recommended.
October 2021: What a fabulous place to stay with your beloved dogs. Arrived in the dark with fog and woke up to the most spectacular views. This is really the most amazing place and so close to the charms of the Calder Valley. Todmorden and Hebden Bridge so close. Had lovely walks so close and really enjoyed a lunch with the dogs at Honest Johns in Todmorden. The house is just lovely with everything that you could need and a lovely welcome pack for you and the dogs. Had our first booking cancelled due to the dreaded COVID and then had to postpone the second due to a family illness Sandra could not have been more accommodating and helpful. Highly recommend fabulous place to stay.
