Parking – Please unload outside your cottage and then move your vehicles to park in front or at the side of the stables opposite the cottage and NOT in the shared driveway. All designated spaces are a short distance from the entrance to your cottage.

Guest Lists – Only guests listed on the booking form may stay overnight, we reserve the right to charge for unauthorised overnight stays and to ask guests to leave.

The heating system – The cottage is heated with an oil boiler + log fire. It is set to run several times a day and also produces the hot water. If you are too hot, please turn the radiator valves down. If you require extra heat press the black button under the green light (do not press if lit as this means the boiler is already running) situated near to the boiler and this will give you an additional hours run. The open fire burns ONLY LOGS you will damage the fire if you burn coal. We provide 3 bags of logs for every full week booking. More are available from Sandra or Brian at cost. Open fire log ash: please empty the base of the fire in the lounge regularly and put to cool in the tin bucket placed in the wooden store outside the side door.

Septic Tank – We operate on a septic tank system. This does not use any chemicals as it is a “green system”. It is very important that no chemicals of any kind should be used at Rough Top Cottage. We provide all the necessary ecological cleaning materials including:

Eco friendly washing up liquid, surface cleaner, hand soap and loo cleaner are all provided.

Only human waste and loo paper should be disposed of in the toilet.  Only liquids (but not melted fat) should go down the sink waste.  Please recycle as follows:

  • Sanitary items (tampons & towels) condoms.  Sanitary bags and bins are provided – please use them.
  • Disposable nappies, wet wipes, baby wipes, moist toilet tissues. Sanitary bags are provided – please use them.
  • Babies bottle sterilisers – Where possible please use electric or microwavable bottle sterilisers.  Milton has the same effect on the septic tank as bleach, so please do not use.

Recycling and non-recyclable waste: We pride ourselves on recycling as much as possible. Recycling is collected every week and the wheelie bin once every two weeks. Usually Thursday is the collection day but they can come very early so please place the bins etc. outside the main entrance on Wednesday evening. If it’s very windy please ensure that the bags are wedged together to stop them blowing away!

  • Glass:All glass of all colours can be put in the mixed glass bins.
  • Tins:Please rinse out tins. Glass + tins go in the black box.

  • General Waste:There are wheelie bins provided for non-recyclable rubbish by the cottage. The rubbish must be securely tied in black sacks before putting in the bins provided.
